To celebrate the Vernal Equinox (which coincides with the one year anniversary of both Georgia Ruth’s third album, Mai, and a year of living in lockdown), Bubblewrap and Georgia are releasing a very special out-take from the album’s recording session. Recorded in Aberystwyth’s Joseph Parry Hall in April 2019, this previously unheard track; Spring, is a completely live performance between Georgia, Angharad Davies (violin) and Ailsa Mair Hughes (cello).
Having forgotten about the song, Georgia revisited it recently and was struck by how prescient the lyrics seemed in light of the pandemic. One of the first songs written for the album, she has enjoyed rediscovering it.
“The need for lightness, movement, and hope (brought about by the turn of the season) feels even more pressing now,” she said. “There’s a rawness in the recording, and when we listened back, both Iwan Morgan and I were transported back to that beautiful room a couple of years ago, with its amazing natural reverb, the musicians, and the energy that went into the making of the album – things that all will always feel very special to me. Recorded in a different world, it felt so appropriate for this new one, somehow.”
